Remember, the key to a successful stand-up routine is not just what you say, but how you say it. Delivery, timing, and ability to connect with the audience are just as important as the jokes themselves.
An experienced comedian like Mihai Bobonete perfected their stage voice, so it was our job to capture the spontaneity and energy of his performance for viewers at home. Seriously, Bobonete isn’t afraid to hold back, and his show is wild.
We are the Romanian production company that films Mihai Bobonete’s podcast, arguably the most successful Romanian podcast with a multi-million audience. Still, a podcast with serious talk is an entirely different beast from a stand-up comedy special, so we were honored when Mihai Bobonete’s producer asked us along for the ride. When the Back in Business Netflix special got the greenlight, we packed our bags and followed him to shoot in Bucharest and London.
We had the opportunity to see part of the show in a stand-up comedy club in London. In just two days of pre-production we were ready for the big show. Filming abroad comes with challenges but we successfully handled them with the help of our extended WorkHorse collective from London 🙂

As for editing? Post-production on a comedy show is a different flow from most productions.
What makes a joke land is a combination of perfect timing and audience dialogue. That has a certain speed during a live show but the edit for the Netflix special had to turn it into a faster, more dramatic event.
You also have to keep in mind that being in the audience of a comedy special is a different experience entirely from the one watching at home.
Yes, a home viewer might miss some of the longer build-ups to punchlines, but they’ll have a view of the artist better than the best seat in the house.
When it comes to post-production for comedy specials, it’s a push and pull between close-ups and panoramic views - and you have to have a flair for rhythm.
Part examination of his relationship with fame and part reflection on various aspects of Romanian society, in Back in Business, Bobonete turns everyday experiences into a comedy tour-de-force.
Relatable, everyday moments and huge, world-changing events are both masterfully turned into a hilarious, seamless story.
Needless to say, we loved being the first to see it and the Romanian production company chosen to shape it.
